When to Hire an Interior Designer? Timing is Everything!

Custom Tile-Work

Are you wondering when the best time is to hire an interior designer? Let me tell you—it's sooner than you think!

Recently, we had the pleasure of working with a wonderful family who had two lovely daughters. They envisioned a bathroom with two sinks, allowing them to start their day together. Fortunately, this family made the smart choice to hire an interior designer early in the process, just as construction was beginning.

When I received their call, I emphasised how wise their decision was. Had they waited until after construction was completed, they would have faced unnecessary costs for structural changes to accommodate their needs.

By involving us before the plumbing and electrical work was set, the family gained the flexibility to modify layouts and design elements to perfectly align with their vision. While builders focus on creating sturdy homes based on blueprints, they may not capture the unique essence of your family’s lifestyle. Hiring an interior designer from the outset ensures that your vision is seamlessly integrated into every aspect of the design.

Dual sink design

One of our clients expressed a strong desire for an open and fluid floor plan. Collaborating closely with the client at a very early stage, we employed a subtle yet impactful design strategy. Outlining the kitchen and sitting room zones through utilising distinct tile colours and textures, we achieved a sophisticated spatial differentiation without the need for traditional wall separations.

Another project involved creating a dedicated home theatre for a nuclear family, prioritising both aesthetic appeal and functionality. Early involvement in the construction process enabled us to utilise the space for an optimal viewing experience. Some key design innovations were the integration of an acoustically reactive artwork, a custom-made coffee table, showcasing their favourite movie memorabilia encased in epoxy resin, which served as a conversation piece. To further enhance the ambiance, we designed the ceiling to resemble a starry night sky, creating an elegant and captivating atmosphere. Concealed technology and a compact footprint were paramount, ensuring a streamlined and elegant aesthetic. The addition of three comfortable recliners further enhanced the luxurious and immersive viewing experience.

In many builder-made projects, the emphasis is primarily on sturdiness and efficiency. This often leads to standard choices for finishes, such as tiles that are identical across all homes in a development. While these homes may be structurally sound, they can lack the personal touch that truly makes a space feel like home.

So remember, when it comes to hiring an interior designer, timing is everything! Let’s Connect.
